Trentside Cricket Club
Trentside Cricket Club was formerly known as Burton Working Men’s Cricket Club and was founded in 1948 by A Carlton and L Felgate. Fixtures were played at Stapenhill Meadows, Stapenhill until 1954 before moving to their present ground at Burton Road, Branston. In 1981, the Clubs name was changed to Trentside and played friendly fixtures on Sundays and in the South Derbyshire Midweek League which we won in 1991.
In 1988, Trentside entered a team in the Derby District Saturday League before moving to the Burton & District Saturday League in 1991 with two teams. In 1993 a third team was entered into the League and the 1st team won the 2nd Division unbeaten and the 2nd team won Division B. In 2006, Trentside took on a new challenge moving to the Derbyshire County Cricket League with three teams. In the first year the 1st team won the Bayley League Cup competition and then in 2007 won promotion to the 2nd Division by winning their respective League. 2007 also saw the Club enter a 4th team in the Burton & District League but unfortunately at the end of the 2008 Season this League disbanded and the team entered into the Derbyshire League together with the rest of the Clubs teams.
In 2010, we re-entered the local Brewery Cup Competition where we have reached the semi finals twice in previous years, this year we reached the Final losing to Ticknall in a competitive game which surprised most Clubs. We have previously played in the Lichfield & District Sunday League but have had to withdraw at the end of the 2009 season owing to lack of interest. The 2011 Season was a fantastic year for the Club with the 2nd being promoted as Runners Up of Division 6 South, the 3rd's Winning Divsion 9 South and the 4th's finishing Runners Up of Division 10 South. This means the gap between the 1st and 2nd team has shortened.
In 1989, an Under 17’s team was formed with the growing number of junior players becoming members of the Club. In 1991, Trentside joined the Burton & District Youth League and in 2004 entered an Under 13 2nd team in the South Derbyshire Youth League. Trentside now boasts a Kwik Cricket team, Under 11’s and 13’s, two Under 15’s and two Under 17’s. In 2000 the Under 13’s won the League Cup and the Lichfield District Indoor and Burton Indoor Leagues in 2003 together with the Derby Willows Indoor League in 2004. The Kwik Cricket team won the Yoxall Tournament in 2004 and the Under 17’s won the League Play Off in 2002. 2008 saw the Club play in the Indoor Tournament at Paulet and win this together with the Under 15's Burton team winning the Ace Sports Trophy.
Trentside currently has seven Qualified Coaches with Level I and two with Level II status and is a Staffordshire Focus Club and has achieved Clubmark Accreditation status.
In recent years, Trentside has developed its facilities from a prefab to a new Clubhouse which was built in 1992, artificial wicket, outdoor nets and more recently an electronic scoreboard. Gordon Brake and Chris Williams remain the only playing members still to play regular cricket since the late Burton Working Men’s Cricket Club days. Gordon Brake’s career includes a bowling best of 10 for 18 in 1995. In 2005, the Club saw the retirement of two long serving Life Members who had nearly 80 years service between them, Dave Farman (Secretary & Groundsman) and Glenis Farman (Treasurer), it is with this the Club continues to exist today. In 2007, The Club's current Chairman, Mark Upchurch, completed his 25 years service at the Club along with John Elson,Chris Williams and Colin Wood in 2008. The 2008 Season also saw, Helen Farman, begin her 25 years as an Official Scorer at the Club although she had been Scoring unofficially for two years prior to that.
